The FX market convenes from Monday morning in Shenzen, China to Friday afternoon in New York. All day and night at least one place on the globe, forex is traded.

It does wind up on weekends so it’s not a real 24/7 market. It’s in a way 24/5.

So should you want to keep educated about the absolute opening and closing times of the forex market, consider time zones. By using UTC, it becomes an undemanding method.

Greenwich or GMT is the one-time title of UTC or Universal Coordinated Time. It is the actual winter time at zero longitude on the globe that is Greenwich, London.

So, the common FX market hours are 22.00 Sunday UTC to 22.00 Friday UTC. In UK wintertime its 10 pm.

Seeing that New York time is 5 hours behind UK time, the forex market globally would open and close at Sunday 5 pm and Friday 5 pm in New York, 2 pm at the west coast of the US, 11 pm at Germany and then 8 am Monday and 8 am Saturday in Australia, Sydney to be exact.

In detail, here are the hours of noteworthy global markets:

Sydney: 10 pm to 7 am UTC Tokyo: 12 midnight to 9 am UTC London: 8 am to 5 pm UTC New York: 1 pm to 10 pm UTC

Expressed in EST (Eastern US time):

Sydney: 5 pm till 2 am EST Tokyo: 7 pm through 4 am EST London: 3 am until 12 noon EST New York: 8 am till 5 pm EST

It’s apparent here that markets do work 24 hours a day in a global sense.

24 hour market trade does not designate that all 24 hours are commodious for good trading. When a big market kicks off in its morning, price movement is quite unreliable and wayward.

This is why knowledgeable traders will discontinue their trading for a period of as much as an hour 4 times a day when the major destinations commence their market day.

So in a sense you may trade 24 hours a day from Sunday night to Friday night. Automated software in the cast of a forex robot can even make this physically conceivable.

But the prudent trader goes for optimal times and is eventually not trading during the complete operating hours of the foreign exchange market.
